One area a lot of players struggle with is the inability NOT take criticism personal. Often times the truth can hurt and it is your ability to handle the truth that will ultimately determine your success. Always ask yourself, can you handle the truth and learn from what you have been told or are you going to play the victim and shut down?
Can you handle the TRUTH?This morning I shared this great quote from Doc Rivers:”AVERAGE players want to be left alone.GOOD players want to be coached.GREAT players want to be told the truth.”This scene from A Few Good Men poses an interesting question! Can you handle the TRUTH? Because if you can’t you will never be a great player!Too many players take the truth as a personal attack rather than feedback to help them get better. Remember most coaches want you to succeed, so learn to accept the truth and work on your game!

The reason why I posed this video from A Few Good Men is because I read this quote from Doc Rivers and that famous Jack Nickolson scene immediately popped into my head!
AVERAGE players want to be left alone.
GOOD players want to be coached.
GREAT players want to be told the truth.” – Doc Rivers
I think Doc sums this up really well. Too many players take the truth as a personal attack rather than feedback to help them get better. Remember most coaches want you to succeed, so learn to accept the truth and work on your game! As a matter of fact like Doc says great players want to be told the truth! No sugar coating, they just want an honest assessment so they know what they need to improve on.
You must develop a thick skin and make sure you understand the message from the coach and keep pushing along. If you really want to be a great player this is a must learn lesson that you have embrace.
Can you handle the truth?
